My new definition of transsexual*

"Magnet for assholes who want to say stupid bullshit."

I'd put a Judith Butler quote here about how womanhood is multiplicity, but I can't find it.

don't forget to keep all of the constructs like "womanhood" at safe distance with quotation marks.

Also, use intentionally nigh-incomprehensible writing, and say it's a revolutionary action.

Heh. :)

I like Butler, but yet I am laughing.

I like her ideas, but I think her writing style is counterproductive - I feel like Serano's critique of her work is a critique of the common misinterpretation of Butler's work, and I'm not sure if that was intentional or not. In any case, I think misinterpretation of Butler, partially caused by Butler's writing style, fuels transexualphobia in queer/trans communities.

Not just queer/trans communities, but some feminists would use the back of a milk carton to justify that.

[identity profile] dashingdeviant.livejournal.com 2008-09-07 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, definitely. I've also seen feminists who wouldn't normally touch Butler use her to justify transphobia (actually, I think we've all seen that).

Hell, I've seen one use the Book of Genesis. They'll do anything, those wacky radfems.

It would be funny if they weren't, you know, targeting real people.

I do laugh when I see bullshit like that, but it's still bullshit aimed at people like me, at saying my life shouldn't be what it is.

Walt Whitman?

Think of womanhood and you to be a woman;
The creation is womanhood
Have I not said that womanhood involves all?
Have I not told how the universe has nothing better than
the best womanhood?

I was just going for "I am large; I contain multitudes", but. :)

That'd work, too! :)
