well of course i abhor the idea of civil rights being decided by a majority vote; it is in fact the concept that the rights of queers should (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oregon_Ballot_Measure_36_(2004)) be (http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9A07E5DF123CF931A25751C0A96E958260) voted (http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qa3944/is_200212/ai_n9156453) on (http://www.democracynow.org/2002/9/10/miami_dade_county_votes_today_on) that subjects us to further legal treatment of subhumanity. i live in creeping fear of Dino Rossi getting elected here in Washington because besides being an asshole, as shitty tipper, and scared of black people, he's an anti-queer zealot of the highest order.
the tide is turning to an extent, though shit like Constitutional Amendment 36 (and the relative difficulty of overturning an amendment to the Oregon Constitution once it be wrought) reminds me that there are still too many people who think discrimination against queers is their right.
