The lesbian community bores me 9/10 times. Only so many peoples pictures or introductions you can respond to before it drives you mad! But then I have no room to try and help someone with relationship issues.

Well the big controversy in the trans community currently must help. FtM and Free Speech FTM always seem to have some argument going on about something.

I assume you are including other blogs in your commenting quota?

I comment to several blogs, kind of serially.

In fact, there's a queer_rage post about exactly that...that I didn't write. :)

All of that and your own blog. You are one busy woman!
I hope you at least enjoy it.

Oh right I read about her in TransGriot's blog. It seems like there are so many more trans women being killed this year. I guess that could just because I never was that aware of trans news before.

Approximately 1 murder/month has made it into the media for several years. No idea how many don't make it.

in college, i did a little presentation in my journalism class about what the key words to watch out for in the police blotter were. there are papers that are pretty openly awful (the philadelphia inquirer, toronto star, los angeles times and chicago tribune being the worst; newspapers of alleged record which have really bad records) and there are papers which will invariably find and sensationalize a story the minute there's a hook beyond transness. generally if you're white and not a sex worker, you get a blurb. in all fairness, cisgendered sex workers of color generally get no mention when killed either, though they tend to at least not get misgendered when they do.

i should dig up the presentation and post it. my roommate-from-college works at the awful, horrible right-wing shitpit that is the Portland Oregonian, a paper that reflects about jack and shit when it comes to Oregonian values, and she's actually got my poster on her cube wall. awwh!

If you post it, that'd be great.

I've heard anecdotal stuff, like a serial killer in British Columbia who killed multiple trans women sex workers, but I don't think those ever made it to the national or international media.

And, oh yes: The Oregonian has been trying to not only be a shitpit, but actually become the platonic ideal of one.

oh, there's a long and anguished history there with the Oregonian. i can distinctly remember 1992, when the oral-groanian managed to not only loudly endorse Measure 9 (rememember, "abnormal, wrong, unnatural and perverse"?) but also completely cock up the murder of a relative of mine, as well as a gay man she lived with, in a firebombing that the media generally excused as anything but skinhead activity even though the defendants were fucking covered in swastikas and the fuckers weren't Native.

i'll dig it up. i think there's a digital copy out there somewhere. let's just say it really pissed off my essentialist, biology iz destiny omg journalism prof.

I lived in Oregon in 1992, and totally remember that stupid OCA mantra. I don't think I heard about the firebombing, but I may have forgotten.

I've had relatives who have worked for the Oregonian - in delivery and sales - and they were treated like shit.

mind, hattie mae had been dealing with people vandalizing her shit with "nigger," "fag," "fag-lover," and "dyke" alike; trying to downplay it to JUST RACIAL VIOLENCE or JUST DRUNK KIDS (and convincing a jury to let them off with relative slaps on the wrist...22 years?) is pretty much all part of the "fun." Former Governor Barbara Roberts put it best (http://www.sos.state.or.us/archives/governors/Roberts/legis1993.html) in stating "The type of bias that fueled both the hatred and flames doesn’t really matter. The cost is the same. The bigotry is a carbon copy, regardless of the victim."

Okay, I remember this case now. I remember all kinds of violence starting up, and some of the violence against OCA people was clearly staged to make them look like victims.

God. :(

Did you see the post about Bilerico? (http://community.livejournal.com/queer_rage/1042584.html)

From: [identity profile] fall-of-sophia.livejournal.com

no, I'm not a member there anymore.

are you taking up too much space again you brash, hostile tranny?

Okay, my post here (http://questioningtransphobia.wordpress.com/2008/09/05/bilerico-project-questions-about-transgender-people/).

Basically, Bil at Bilerico asks for help getting education, I respond, and make a post at my blog pointing out the privilege of asking this of women and trans people, and then I answer the question. Conversation ensues, mostly on my blog.

From: [identity profile] fall-of-sophia.livejournal.com

ohh I got mixed up. actually, I had read the blog post earlier but didn't make it into the comments. that is just some thick-headed shit. i'm glad it happened over at your place, at least.

For some reason I was getting the impression that someone raged on you commenting too much, ha.

Oh, no. God, if someone did that, I'd probably throw a party on their doorstep and invite everyone.

I mean, er, no, I wouldn't do that. That would be wrong.

From: [identity profile] heinousbitca.livejournal.com

omg plz to invite me if you do!!1111!!!ELEVENTY!!! i'm very good with wrong.

no seriously some people talk a lot because they have something valid to say.

some people talk a lot because they're assholes.

the fact that the behaviors seem similar does not mean that someone with something valid to say shouldn't talk a lot for fear of being conflated with the party of the second part. in other words, don't shut up.
ext_28673: (Default)

From: [identity profile] lisaquestions.livejournal.com

Oh, not going to shut up. :)I figure if someone wants me to be quiet, they'll stop responding.

And I'd totally invite you to that party that I would totally not do... because it's wrong.
